One Delivery... And Then Another...

A package arrived yesterday. It was soft a squishy, like a pillow. What could be within?
It was a mat from Geek Villain. I can't remember what inspired me to order this but I did and it arrived (from the UK to Australia) within a couple of weeks.
It's very nice and very well made. It's the 6' x 4' "Autumn" design. It's fleece and has a really nice feel with a very clean print. I chose this one because I like the non-uniform look with those sandy/bare earth patches that break up the grass pattern.
It's a bit larger than 6x4 with a few inches overhang on the long edge and a small overhang on the short edges. One reason I wanted a fleece mat is so that I can place hills underneath to get that seamless effect as well at the prospect of placing small pieces of cottonwool (or whatever) to take away some of that that golf course flatness we all know and love.

There were creases in it (see pic above) from being folded and packed but the creases were almost undiscernible once it was laid out on the table.
As I said it has a really nice pattern with little patches of printed shrubbery.
I'm very happy with this purchase and there is only one thing better than this mat that I can think of. And that is...

A second mat!

Yes I ordered a matching pair so I can use them on either 6' x 12' or a 6' x 8' table.

And a second delivery arrived just this morning.
Two days in a row.
What could this one be?

I tried to pick this up whilst I was in the UK recently but I was just out of time to get it. I think it was released the day I left for Greece so I had to wait until I got home to order it. When I did go to order it I discovered that the average price in Australia is about $60.00 which is one of the reasons I wanted to get it in the UK. However, I ordered it from Book Depositary instead and it cost $41.00. How is that possible?

Anyway; it looks nice and I'll delve into it this evening to see what goodies await within...
Nice artwork, that's for sure!

  1. The mat looks great Ian. The first photo, ignoring the creases, shows that it will look great with the hills underneath it.
The difference in prices on the internet will always be a mystery, beyond the ken of mere mortals. 😊
Always great to get deliveries though. A bit like Christmas when you are a kid. You dont really know when it will be and suddenly it is there!

    1. We always pay a premium here in Australia. I'm going to order some more Perry Napoleonic Prussians soon and it's cheaper for me to pay the high postage from the UK than to buy from Australian dealers.

    2. I hate to sound like an advertisement but order your Perry figures through Caliver Books where shipping is free on even modest-sized figure orders. Nice game cloths.

    3. Hi Jonathan... I didn't know that. I'll give it a try but in the past I've had trouble trying to pay Caliver Books. I can't recall the specifics but I remember trying to pay for an order and my payments just wouldn't go through. I made several attempts and in the end I gave up. That was a few years back. I'll give it a go again.

    4. Yes, I would thoroughly recommend Caliver for anything they stock that you want - it will always be a bit cheaper than the manufacturer eg Perry boxes £17-£19 rather than £20 - plus, as Jon says, spend £30 and its post free worldwide! If you have payment issues email Dave at the info email address (I am sure kit will be on their site somewhere) he is happy to accept card details via a couple of emails if the shopping cart wont work for some reason

    5. BTW I am ordering ex NZ and have the same issue - local retailers can be up to NZD 50-60 per box for Perry etc, ex UK at £18 = NZD 36!

    6. Thanks Ross. I'll give it a go. Same deal here. Retail a Perry box is about $60 but £18 comes in at about $30.

    7. You should be fine - my latest order took six weeks - however, the people in Nottingham had accidentally addressed it to Auckland, Australia - so i am guessing it took OzPost a week or two to work out there isn't an Auckland in NSW!

  2. Nice greens / shades / textures in the mat. I have one of theirs and would not hesitate to order again.

  3. I made my order and I was sure I was going to get a good product. Then I saw a new video on Storm of Steel where he showed his new Geek Villain mat and I was then convinced I'd made a great choice.

    1. Thanks Michal. No effort on my part for this posting but it's nice to share good fortune.

  5. Those commercially produced gaming mats are pretty tempting - I have been humming and hawing over getting one for a while now ....even though I don't actually have a table or any prospect of getting one at home!

    1. Same. But we wnt on holiday and I came back with a bunch of my "allotted" spending money. So I spent it on these mats. I don't want them for home so much but more for when I go to my club because they're very portable.
